THE BAJUN

The origin of the Bajun is not yet well understood. They share with the Swahili/Shirazi a similar cultural evolution, the same language and religion, whilst being a group apart. They number 25,000 and 3/5 of them live on the islands near the Somalian border.

Their economy revolves around the coastal products of copra, mangrove wood. fishing and boat building. Their craftsmen have reached a high reputation in the whole of the country for their wood work.
