LAKE BARINGO

Lake Baringo is a freshwater lake twice the size of Lake Naivasha. Lake Baringo is 15 km north of the little town of Marigat. It is home of great numbers of birds and hippos.  Over 400 species have been identified here. Gibraltar Island in the lake offers the largest colony of Goliath heron in East Africa.

The lake has more sediment than other rift valley lakes, which can be seen from its brownish colour viewed from the shoreline or detected in the light it reflect to earth resources satellites.

The Lake level fluctuates from year to year, sometimes by several metres, depending on rainfall in the surrounding hills.
