Days 2 & 3 Lolldaiga Ranch Laikipia - Walking Lolldaiga is one of Kenya's most stunning ranches as well as one of the oldest. The farmhouse & farm sheds are still in their original impeccable condition, having been built from surrounding cedar forests in the early 1900's by colonial settlers Within the 49,000 acre ranch, vegetation ranges from savannah to open woodlands and forests. The working cattle ranch demonstrates optimal coexistence of people, livestock husbandry and wildlife. There are some 60 species of wildlife & 300 species of birds, living along with merino sheep & pedigree herds of Borana & Red Pol cattle. We spend 2 full days walking towards the north of the ranch & covering the rocky ridges to the central plains. We stroll past herds of zebra, gazelle & giraffe as well as spotting the tracks of the elephants that passed by during the night. We climb up onto the rocky kopjies from where we have a fantastic viewpoint over the plains and waterholes where elephants come to water. Camping FB

Days 4 & 5 Mukogodo Forest - Walking We spend 2 days walking across this region with our local Laikipia Masai guides exploring the natural indigenous forest of podo, olive and cedar trees and clothed with lichen, ferns and orchids. The forest is haven for birds, butterflies and wildlife including elephant, buffalo, leopard, wild dog, aardvark, tree hyrax, bush buck and dikdik. With the call of the honey- guide bird our guide will track the bees hive to locate the honeycomb and share it amongst the birds and ourselves. Our mobile camp meets us each evening set up in a different natural bush setting. We have the chance to meet local people using the same footpaths as we stroll through forest, across steams and up onto the rocky escarpment for magnificent view points towards the northern region of Samburu Country.
